Deadlock Troopers Explained

Deadlock, being a MOBA, features a lot of NPCs. These Non-Player Characters play a pivotal role in a Deadlock match. Among these various NPCs, Troopers are the most common and abundant in a game. In this article, we’ll explain what Deadlock Troopers are.

What are Troopers in Deadlock?

Troopers are the minions in Deadlock. They are easy to kill and -in isolation- aren’t a big threat to the player. Their function is to attack anything in sight and drop Souls when they die. For experienced MOBA players: they’re like the lane creeps in Dota 2 or minions in League of Legends.

Troopers spawn in a group at the Patron every 25 seconds and then progress towards the lane they’re assigned to. They are transported by the Transit Line and drop from the line once they reach the fight.

Types of Troopers

There are three types of Troopers.

  • Medics: these heal friendly player heroes who are in the healing radius
  • Range: these shoot enemies with a slow-firing gun
  • Melee: these charge at enemies with an axe

The medic Troopers carry a flag, whereas the range and melee troopers carry guns or maces. They all look pretty similar, so it can be hard to distinguish them during all the chaos. Troopers get stronger as a match progresses into mid and late game.

Super Troopers

The basic Troopers can be upgraded to so-called Super Troopers. This happens when a team is under the Rejuvenator Buff. You get this buff after killing the Mid Boss, which spawns at the center of the map after some time. Super Troopers act the same as regular Troopers, but they deal more damage and are more difficult to kill.

Troopers and Souls

Killing any enemy NPC or hero will get you Souls, but the most common way to get Souls is to farm Troopers. When you kill a Trooper, you get part of the souls they drop, and the rest ascend into the sky as a Soul Orb. This Soul Orb breaks after reaching a certain point, giving you (the player who killed it) the remaining part.

However, anyone can shoot this Soul Orb. If an enemy shoots the Orb, that’s called a steal, meaning the enemy stole the portion of souls that was supposed to be the killer’s. On the other hand, if you or your teammate shoots the Soul Orb, it’s called a secure, meaning you secured the Soul Orb from the enemy.

If an enemy kills one of your Troopers, the same thing happens: he gets some part of the souls while the other ascends into the sky as a Soul Orb. You can shoot this Orb to do a deny, meaning denying enemy souls.

When you kill a Trooper, the Soul Orb is colored Cyan, while enemy Soul Orbs are colored Orange.

Generally, you should shoot any Soul Orbs you see, whether cyan or orange. This will ensure that you are getting more souls than your enemy.

In the game’s later stages, killing Trooper doesn’t give you any direct Souls. Instead, all the Souls dropped from killed Troopers are in the form Soul Orbs.

Tip:

If you finish off a Trooper with a melee attack, the Soul Orb breaks automatically, ensuring you get the total amount. So, always try to finish off of Troopers with a melee attack.

Conclusion

Troopers are the most basic NPCs in Deadlock, and understanding them is crucial if you want to win in Deadlock. They are essential not only for defense and offense but also for Soul farming.

So, farm enemy troopers, protect yours, and deny as many Soul Orbs as possible.
