Deadlock Mid Boss: How It Works and How to Beat It
The Deadlock Mid Boss is one of the best sources of souls. In case you’re not aware: souls are the most important thing you must be wary of to win in Deadlock. Gaining an early soul lead can be super advantageous for your team. It allows you to level up your heroes first and put pressure on the enemy team. In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the Mid Boss and how to beat it.
What is the Mid Boss in Deadlock?
The Mid Boss is essentially a side objective that you can clear to get some benefits. It is a neutral troop that spawns in the basement in the middle of the map. When the mid boss spawns, a loud roaring sound can be heard across the map. Once it is defeated, it respawns after 7 minutes. Worth noting is that the Mid Boss is an optional objective: you can still win the game without defeating the Mid Boss, but it can be useful for your team if you beat it.
While the Mid Boss spawns at 10 minutes, it is not recommended to challenge it immediately. Instead, we recommend you to challenge it in the late game or after 20 minutes. However, this isn’t a strict rule and depends on your team and heroes’ strength level. Just be sure to communicate with your team before taking on the boss. It’s not a one-man job.
For veteran MOBA players, the Mid Boss can be compared with Roshan or the Baron Nashor from Dota 2 and League of Legends respectively.
How to Defeat the Mid Boss
When you are prepared to tackle the Mid Boss, all you need to do is head to the underground area at the center of the map.
The Mid Boss will be inside a big room with a pit in the center. You will need to enter the pit to challenge it and deal damage to it. Any damage from outside of the pit will not be registered.
The Mid Boss has two health bars; a smaller orange one and a bigger cyan bar. The cyan bar represents the shield of the Boss. You need to clear its shield bar before you can damage the health bar. The shield will regenerate during the fight; this means that you need to keep on dealing damage.
At around 60% health, the Mid Boss will let out another roar. This is to alert the enemy team that the boss is being challenged. This is useful to know, since it can alter the strategies of the enemy team.
After defeating the boss, it will release soul orbs just like every other enemy. Shoot to them to secure the souls: otherwise your enemy might steal them. Along with the souls, the mid-boss also drops the Rejuvenation crystal. In order to secure that, you need to hit it with a charged melee attack.
The Rejuvenation Crystal grants you the Rejuvenator buff. The Rejuvenator buff has the following effects:
- 50% faster respawn time (on your first death only).
- 50% health buff to all Troopers.
- 27% faster fire rate for your entire team.
The Rejuvenator buff lasts for three minutes.
Important to know is that you don’t get the buff for killing the Mid Boss, but by smashing the crystal that drops from it. This means that the enemy team has the opportunity to steal it, so you should secure it as soon as possible after defeating the Mid Boss.
Why You Should Defeat the Mid-Boss
Considering the difficulty of defeating the Mid boss, one can wonder whether it’s worth beating it or not.
The decision to beat the Mid Boss ultimately comes down to your team. As the boss can’t be defeated alone, you will have to communicate with your team.
Simply put, defeating the boss gives you a lot of souls and the rejuvenator buff. Both of which are really good for the late game. You will have a faster respawn rate, fire rate, and beefier minions. All of which can help in putting pressure on the enemy.
Even if you decide not to challenge the Mid Boss, the enemy team likely will. You can’t let the enemy team get the buffs, it’s like giving them a free upper hand. Chances are you will be fighting the Mid Boss whether you like it or not. So, plan around this fight beforehand.
Tips on Defeating the Mid Boss
Although the buffs are juicy, the Mid Bos is quite tough to beat. So, here are some tips to defeat the Mid Boss so you don’t lose your entire team.
Plan when to take on the Mid Boss
This is the most important part. You need to challenge the boss when your team is strong enough but also making progress in lanes. Ideally, you should challenge the boss when all the lanes are yours.
Watch out for enemies
The enemy team is not going to sit back and let you kill the boss. The Mid Boss room is open from all sides, meaning enemies can attack from anywhere. You should have one or two of your teammates act as guards. McGinnis is a great hero for this as she can put up turrets and traps.
Secure the crystal and soul orbs
The last thing you want to happen is letting your enemies get the rewards for your efforts. When the boss is defeated, secure the soul orbs and crystal as soon as you can. For the crystal, you can ask a teammate to hold parry on the crystal so the enemy can’t melee it. This way you can secure the crystal easily.
Win a big team fight before challenging the Mid Boss
The Mid Boss lets out a roar at 60% HP, alerting your enemies that it’s being challenged. This will almost always cause them to come down and challenge you. If you’re too weak, the enemy team can wipe you and make off with the Mid Boss rewards. A good idea is to challenge the Mid Boss after your team has won a big team fight where -ideally- around three enemy heroes have been sent back to spawn.
Make sure you’ve got enough damage
Challenging the Mid Boss by itself isn’t an easy feat to begin with, but you also must factor in the possibility of the enemy team dropping in on the fight. This means that you want to make sure that you’ve got enough damage to handle both if necessary.
Know when to fall back
Defeating the Mid Boss isn’t a necessity. If you find that you’re getting ambushed by enemies and you know that you can’t win, you can always retreat. If, for example, you notice that the enemies have sent too many heroes down to contest the Mid Boss, you can also strategically fall back to send their remaining heroes back to spawn.
Conclusion
Defeating the Mid Boss in isolation is pretty straightforward. However, the fact that the enemy team can also drop in at any time makes this a very strategic encounter. Do you go for the Mid Boss immediately when you have the chance? Do you wait for your enemies to go for it, only to drop in on them later? There’s no straightforward right answer here. It all depends on the tempo of the match, your team’s position in the match, and so on.
Aside from the strategic aspect: knowing how to defeat the Mid Boss and having a sense of general strategy can already give you a massive advantage when you decide to go for it. After reading this article you should have a good idea on the do’s and don’ts when it comes to the Deadlock Mid Boss.
