How to Play Deadlock
Deadlock -Valve’s newest game- is an interesting mix of MOBA and shooter gameplay that has already drawn in thousands of players. The game got officially announced a while ago, but it’s still in its testing phase. This means that you can’t just go out and download the game. In this article, we’ll show you how to play Deadlock and tell you a little bit more about what we know about Deadlock’s full release.
See Deadlock’s Steam page for more info.
Deadlock Release Date
As of right now, there is no official release date for Deadlock. Valve hasn’t yet mentioned a release date, nor has the developer given any sort of vague timeline. The only information available is the fact that the game is in invite-only early access.
Considering how time-consuming game development can be, we shouldn’t expect a full Deadlock release until 2025 or even 2026.
How to Play Deadlock
In order to play Deadlock you need an invite from someone who already has access to the game. All they need to do is launch the game and invite you from there. The invite will arrive in some time; usually a couple of hours or some days in the worst cases. Once you’re in the playtest, you can play Deadlock and invite friends as well.
If you have a friend who has Deadlock then you are in luck. Simply ask them to send you an invite (as invites seem to be unlimited) and you’re good to go. However, if you don’t then there’s no need to worry as Valve is sending out invites to thousands of players daily.
The other thing you can do is go to Reddit or Discord servers about Deadlock. The game has gotten big quite fast and there are already communities out there. You can ask anyone for a quick invite and they might get you one.
Once you have access, you can visit our Deadlock settings and options guide to help you get started.
Warning: don’t get scammed
Invites are completely free. Valve doesn’t charge anything to play the game, and there isn’t a set limit on how many players can be invited. As such, never pay for an invite. Never give anyone access to your account for an invite either. The only thing anyone needs for an invite is to be friends with that person on Steam. Use common sense here.
What Platforms Will Deadlock Be On?
As mentioned, Deadlock is in the early development stage and the game is only available on PC at the moment. There has been no news from Valve regarding support for Xbox or PlayStation. However, the game is guaranteed to be released on the Steam Deck as there already has been gameplay footage for it.
What Is Deadlock About?
Deadlock is a mixture of MOBAs and third-person shooters. The game is more MOBA than a shooter. It’s the same MOBA gameplay we are all familiar with but instead of the top-down view, it’s a third-person shooter.
While shooter skills can certainly come in handy in Deadlock, it’s good to know that the game currently is more of a MOBA than a shooter. Strategy, coordination, and knowledge of abilities, items, and counters are all arguably more important than raw aim at this point in time.
Conclusion
Despite being in very early development, Deadlock is already a lot of fun to play. It has tens of thousands of players at any given time, which is extremely impressive for a game that isn’t even out yet. The amount of players also means that invites are being given out readily, so don’t stress if you haven’t gotten on yet.
