Apex Legends Crossplay: How to Play with Friends Across Platforms

Crossplay is a feature that lets players using different devices and platforms play together. With a continuous increase in different gaming platforms, the demand for cross-play-compatible games has also increased and, as expected, Apex Legends didn’t make the players wait too long before introducing this feature. In our guide, we’ll explain how to make full usage of the Apex Legends crossplay feature.

Is Apex Legends Crossplay?

Apex Legends has been one of the most critically acclaimed battle royale games since its release in 2019. Initially, the game did not support crossplay or cross-platform gaming. However, in October 2020, this changed, and now Apex Legends supports crossplay.

This means that you can now play Apex Legends with friends using different gaming consoles such as Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and of course also PC. 

First, you will need to make sure that this feature is enabled in the game and then join a squad.

How to Enable Crossplay in Apex Legends

It is necessary to enable the crossplay feature to play with your friends on different platforms.

You can make sure it is turned on by following these steps:

1. Go to the Lobby.
2. On the bottom-right corner of the screen, click on the cogwheel-shaped icon.

3. Now click on Settings.

4. Scroll down to the Cross Platform Play option.
5. If it is disabled, select Enabled.

How to Add Friends From Other Platforms in Apex Legends

You need to have friends using different devices to experience crossplay in Apex Legends. Adding friends who are playing on different platforms is the same as adding friends from the same platform. So, you will only need their in-game username and can add them by simply following these steps:

1. Launch Apex Legends.
2. Click on the Friends icon next to Settings on the bottom-right.

3. Click on the Find Friend option.

4. Enter your friend’s username and search.

5. From the drop-down menu, select their profile. You can tell which device they are playing on by checking the icon next to their username.

That’s it! Pretty easy, right? You are now friends and can play the game with each other despite using different consoles. 

Make sure that you select the correct username that matches the platform they are playing on.

Does Apex Legends Support Cross-Platform Progression?

No, Apex Legends does not have support for cross-platform progression. This means that your progress, rewards, items, skins, and stats will not be carried over upon switching to a new gaming console. In other words, you will need to start from scratch.

For example, if you have played Apex Legends on PlayStation for years and decide to switch to Xbox, you will have to start from level 1 on this new platform. However, this won’t affect your progression on PlayStation.

Having said that, players using Steam or the EA app can experience cross-progression on different PCs only, but not on other platforms.

Respawn Technologies have announced that they are working on cross-platform progression. It might be added to the game soon, but there is no certain release date as of yet.

How to Disable Crossplay in Apex Legends?

Disabling the crossplay feature in Apex Legends is a very basic task and pretty much the same as enabling it. You might want to disable this feature if you don’t play with friends on different platforms too often and you want to ensure that you are only playing with players who are using the same system as you.

Here’s how to do that:

1. Open Apex Legends and go to the lobby.
2. From the bottom-right corner of the screen, click on the cogwheel icon.

3. Click on the Settings option.

4. Scroll down to the Cross Platform Play option.
5. Select Disabled

Does Apex Legends Mobile support Crossplay?

According to the developers at Respawn Technologies, Apex Legends Mobile is entirely different from the game on other platforms and is specifically designed for mobile gamers only. Hence, cross-platform gaming is not supported on Apex Legends Mobile.

This means that you can only play with other players on their mobile devices (iOS or Android). Moreover, the crossplay feature is not expected to launch for Apex Legends Mobile any time soon. This is because mobile gamers will be at a disadvantage against those on consoles or PCs.

Cross-progression is supported on smartphones if you switch from Android to iOS or vice versa.
