Best FPS Mouse for Competitive Gamers in 2025

Introduction

The First-Person Shooter genre (FPS) is one of the most popular gaming genres in the world. Along with League of Legends and DOTA 2 (which are MOBA games) the most popular esports games are pretty much all shooters, so there are plenty of titles out there for competitive-minded gamers to specialize in. In games where shooting is one of the most important skills that you need in order to excel, it goes without saying that you need a good pointing device, and in this list we’ll help you find the best FPS mouse for you.

We start off with the list immediately, but if you’d like to get a little more information on what makes a mouse a good FPS mouse you can read a dedication section on that towards the end of the article.

If you want to compare over 250 registered gaming mice, check out our gaming mice spec list. If you’re a bit unsure on what you want to go for, you can also read our article on how to choose the right gaming mouse for you.

The List

These days, there are many top quality FPS mice on the market, so it’s pretty much impossible to list all of them.

We’ve opted for mice that are readily available in most markets across the world, have a good reputation in the enthusiast and pro scene, have all the features a good FPS mouse should have, and come from brands with a name in the professional gaming scene. As we said, though: this is not an exhaustive list. The list is also in no particular order.

If you feel like a mouse is missing that definitely has to be on the list, feel free to let us know in the comments!

Razer Viper V3 Pro

The Razer Viper V3 Pro is one of the most used gaming mice of the moment, so obviously it has to be included in this list.

This third iteration of Razer’s Viper range took the model in a different direction, with a pretty big change to the shape as its most notable feature. This new shape proved to be a smash hit. It’s comfy, well-executed, and (above all) very safe. This means that it can be used by a large variety of grip styles and hand sizes.

Inside of that shape is a mouse that pushed the boundaries on release, and still ranks as a top performer in today’s market. You’ve got a sensor that’s capable of 8000Hz polling rates and there are optical switches, for instance. Razer also offers a lot of extra tuning options for their sensor inside their Synapse software.

Moving beyond that, the clicks, coating, and feet all feel pretty great, and with a weight of 54 grams you’re in that ‘sweet spot’ range.

It’s an expensive mouse, but you don’t become the mouse of choice for hundreds of pro gamers for no reason. If you’re looking for a pretty safe ambidextrous mouse, you have to be aware of the Viper V3 Pro.

Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2

The Logitech G Superlight line of mice is gaming mouse royalty. And it has been for years. Part of that is because Logitech’s flagship gaming mice were the first mice to offer flawless sensors and true lossless wireless performances, but it’s also because they’re just really good gaming mice.

As far as the shape goes, the Superlight is known for its extremely safe design that fits pretty much all hand sizes and grip styles. There are no sudden curves or bulges here, and this shape (which lovingly gets called a ‘potato shape’ in the mouse enthusiast scene) does not force your fingers at any point. Some people find that boring, but others find this ‘blank slate’ of a shape to be amazing.

If you couple that shape and history with Logitech’s top tier HERO 2 sensor and their flawless wireless technology, you’ve got a product that is one of the top picks for people who are looking for a gaming mouse. The specs are on par with today’s standards for top gaming mice, and there’s also the fact that it has been trusted at the highest echelons of professional gaming for years now, so it’s a logical choice to add to our list.

If you don’t really know what your preferred grip style is yet and/or you want a mouse with a very safe shape from one of the industry’s giants, the GPX2 Superlight is one to consider.

Logitech played it safe with the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2, but that’s understandable. It’s a new version of one of the most-loved mice in all of professional gaming that introduces a couple of tweaks to bring Logitech’s flagship offering in line with today’s mouse standards.

Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro

The DeathAdder V3 Pro was the mouse that put Razer’s legendary line of gaming mice back on the radar of the pros. Thanks to a new shape and a focus on performance over aesthetics, it really hit the spot with competitive gamers. This V4 version refines that even further.

Here, you get Razer’s top quality internals and technology bundled in an ergonomic shape that feels very nice. It’s a bit on the larger side, but other than that it’s quite safe as far as ergo mice go.

Under the hood, it’s cutting edge. On the outside, it feels really well built and finished. And for the cherry on top, the implementation of everything is great. You’ll have to pay a pretty penny for it, but if you want to get a top-of-the-line ergonomic mouse for your FPS gaming sessions, the DeathAdder V4 Pro deserves a look.

VAXEE NP-01S Ergo

VAXEE is a bit of a niche brand. It’s quite well-known in pro gaming circles, but most casual users will probably scratch their head when they hear of this brand. If you ask us, though, they should get a lot more mainstream recognition. This NP-01S Ergo is the perfect example of why.

The NP-01S Ergo is a kind of mixture between typical ergonomic and ambidextrous shapes. This alone makes it pretty unique in today’s gaming mouse landscape and something that’s absolutely worth trying out. It’s also built really well, and the quality is there every step of the way, from the mouse feet to the button implementation.

While it might not tick all of the boxes as far as specs go (it still uses mechanical switches, for example, which some may find to be a bit annoying) it’s undoubtedly one of the best performing gaming mice today. VAXEE’s sole focus is on performance, and they are always updating and improving their products and offerings so that users can get the most out of their products. That’s also why they’re one of the most popular manufacturers with the pros.

If weight is your main concern and you want to get yourself an extremely light gaming mouse, the Corsair Sabre V2 Pro is a great one to consider. Aside from optical switches, this mouse is full of cutting edge specs like an 8000Hz sensor at a friendly price.

In the box, you also get grip tape and replacement mouse feet, making this a great deal for players who want to try out insanely light mice like this one.

What Makes a Mouse Good for FPS Games?

Finding the best FPS mouse for your particular needs will come down to a number of subjective parameters (see our guide on how to choose the right gaming mouse for you for more info) but there are definitely some things that make a gaming mouse objectively better for gaming than an office mouse.

Sensor

One of the main reasons that you can’t just snag a $5 office mouse and call it a day is the sensor. Sensors in mice made for productivity don’t have to care about pixel perfect precision, and they often have built-in features (such as acceleration) that make life easier at the office, but can be a death sentence in gaming scenarios.

Gaming-grade sensors are designed to translate every move that you make on your mousepad to the gaming world with pixel perfect precision, so it’s imperative that you get a mouse with a flawless sensor if you want to get yourself a good FPS mouse.

Flawless sensors are very much the standard today, so any recent mouse made by a reputable gaming brand will probably have a perfect sensor, thought it’s always good to do your research before committing to a purchase. Wrongfully implementing a flawless sensor can still result in tracking issues, for example.

All mice in this article have flawless sensors, so there’s nothing to worry about on that front.

Polling Rate

A relatively new development in the world of gaming mice are polling rates that exceed 1000Hz. These higher polling rates can definitely yield a (small) benefit when it comes to gameplay (most notably when it comes to tracking and other ‘smoothness-based scenarios’) but do note that you need a beefy PC and a very high refresh rate monitor in order to even notice the differences between 1000Hz (the current standard) and higher polling rates. Using higher polling rates also drastically cuts down on the battery life of wireless mice.

As it stands right now, we wouldn’t consider a polling rate of ‘just’ 1000Hz to be a dealbreaker at all, but higher polling rates are very much standard in this day and age. All mice in this article can reach higher polling rates.

Weight

In recent years, there’s been a race in the world of FPS mice to achieve the lightest possible mouse. This makes sense: in FPS games, aim is of crucial importance, and a lighter mouse is easier to navigate when you’re aiming in all directions. This doesn’t mean that lighter = better is something that’s infinitely and objectively true, however.

For most professional gamers these days, the sweet spot seems to be between 55 and 65 grams, but weight is subjective. There are people who prefer heavier mice, and others are constantly on the hunt for lighter and lighter mice. In today’s gaming scene, anything above 85 grams is considered to be a ‘brick’, and as such we recommend staying below that weight if you’re looking to purchase a new FPS mouse.

All mice in this article are below 85 grams in weight.

Buttons

With buttons, it’s the same story as with the sensor. The buttons in a regular office mouse don’t have to be super snappy and precise, since someone who’s clicking around on a spreadsheet isn’t really going to care about the click feeling, nor will they notice a bit of latency in their clicks.

If you’re gaming for hours on end, however, clicks become very important. You need clicks that actuate clearly and precisely, and they need to send the signal to your PC instantly. This is another reason to go with a dedicated gaming mouse over a regular office mouse.

Recently, optical switches have been making their way into the gaming mouse world. These cut down on latency and eliminate any chances of accidental double clicks. If you’d like to learn more about optical switches, check out our Optical Mouse Switches vs Mechanical Mouse Switches article.

Cable / Wireless Connection

When playing FPS games, you’re constantly aiming and moving your mouse around. If you have to do that while also dragging a heavy and stiff cable, this can influence your aim and get annoying after some time. Gaming mice worth their salt these days are wireless, but those that do still come with a wire usually have thin, flexible cables that do not interfere with your aiming movements.

When it comes to wireless connections, it’s important to know that there can be huge differences there as well. A traditional wireless office mouse will almost always have a wireless connection with a delay and a connection that isn’t always tracking. This is logical: you don’t need instantaneous responses and flawless connections 100% of the time when you’re answering emails, so there’s no need to add to the battery life and cost by implementing lossless wireless tech in office mice.

Gaming mice, on the other hand, do need a flawless wireless connection, as you don’t want your aim to be hampered by a spotty signal. These days, all big and reputable manufacturers have wireless tech that rivals (or even exceeds) wired mice, so if you’re buying from a reputable brand you’re bound to get a quality wireless signal.

All mice in this list have flawless wireless technology behind them.

Conclusion – Is There A Best FPS Mouse?

You can pick any mouse from this list and make a compelling argument that it’s the best FPS mouse, but of course these things are subjective. Aspects such as shape, features, weight, and even coating are all greatly influenced by personal opinions, so we don’t believe in crowning any singular mouse the absolute and objective ‘best’ FPS mouse.

The products we’ve chosen should mean that there’s something here for everyone, however. We have a vast variety of shapes in this list, and you should be able to find something that suits your preferences.

When it comes to features, all of these mice are playing in the top leagues. Some might have more flashy components and cutting edge tech, but every single mouse in this article is a mouse that will perform flawlessly in all FPS scenarios.

Take your time to read through the article, and build from that information to find out what your very own best FPS mouse is.
