Best GPU for PUBG

Based on 68 Pro Players

Introduction

PUBG has always been a game that was infamous for being poorly optimized. Things are much better now, thanks to modern hardware and the patches the game received over the years. But the underlying issue remains: PUBG is still quite difficult to run, especially at competitive frame rates. That’s why it’s very important to use a strong, capable GPU for PUBG if you want to be competitive. Paired with a good processor and other capable components, it can help you perform a lot more consistently in fights and encounters.

So, here are some of the best GPUs for PUBG for all types of budgets and requirements.

What makes a GPU good for PUBG?

PUBG asks a bit more of your hardware than other competitive games. Mostly because the game has a bad reputation for being badly optimized. Even most high-end cards have trouble pushing past 400 frames on competitive 1080p. While we usually recommend aiming for 400+ frames for the best competitive experience, we sadly have to change that with this game.

For most gamers, you should be looking at a GPU that can keep your frame rate above your monitor’s refresh rate all the time. For super competitive gamers on 360hz, it’s going to be tough getting consistent 360+ frames, even on 1080p.

But, if you are a more casual player, you can target lower performance tiers. A stable 240 frames per second at 1080p is easily achievable in today’s market with modern budget components.

It’s worth noting that PUBG lacks native upscaling support. Upscaling really helps GPUs push above their weight and gain performance that you’d never see, so that’s another mark against its optimization. You can still use upscaling from the GPU’s software, and there is a Render Scale slider that functions similarly to DLSS/FSR but is not as effective as native upscaling.

Finally, it’s also worth noting that PUBG becomes intensely CPU-oriented during hot drops and crowded end-game circles packed with smoke grenades. While the graphics card handles the rendering on these massive 8×8 km maps, your frame-time consistency often comes down to your processor. You should always pair the cards on this list with a fast and modern CPU; otherwise, you risk bottlenecking your entire setup and experiencing sudden FPS dips right when a gunfight kicks off.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti

The RTX 5070Ti is a powerful high-end pick for PUBG. It’s easily capable of running the game at 4K native with competitive settings at high framerates. And, if you opt for 1440p or 1080p, you can get even higher frames. On the price side, it’s cheaper than the RTX 5080 while being similar to it in performance in PUBG.

At 4K with max settings, the card averages 150 frames per second. Of course, these aren’t the numbers we are looking for, but as soon as you drop some settings, you will see a huge increase to 300 fps average.

Things get much better as we move down resolutions. At 1440p max settings, the card hovers around 260 frames per second, and 320 if you opt for the Very Low preset. Moving on to 1080p, the card averages 300 fps at Max settings, and 360 at Very Low settings.

The RTX 5070Ti, as such, is the best value high-end option for PUBG. The next upgrade from this is the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090. As we said, the RTX 5070Ti is pretty much identical in performance when it comes to PUBG, and while the RTX 5090 is much better, it’s very expensive.

Note that we’re strictly talking about PUBG here; in other games, the RTX 5080 is noticeably faster and better, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re also going to be playing other games.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

The RX 9070 XT is considered by many to be the ultimate value GPU. It’s pretty close in performance when compared to the RTX 5070Ti, but quite far when it comes to price. So, if you are looking to maximize performance-per-dollar, then the RX 9070XT is the way to go.

RX 9070 XT isn’t a 4K card, but it performs admirably in PUBG. At max settings, the card averages 140 frames, and if you drop down all the way to Very Low, you can expect around 280 fps. So, you can enjoy the game casually at 4K with this card. But if you want to play competitively, you will need to go down in resolution.

The card averages 240 fps at max settings on 1440p, making it a good pick for 144Hz 2K setups. If you want more performance, consider dropping down the settings. At Very Low preset, the card hovers around 320-350 fps, which is great for 240 Hz setups. At 1080p, there is a slight increase in frame rate averages, with 280 and 400 at Max and Lowest settings, respectively.

RX 9070 XT is one of the best 1440p cards on the market, especially given its price and the performance it offers. For PUBG, it’s a great option for 1440p high-refresh-rate setups if you want to go with team AMD.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090

For most competitive games, the RTX 5090 is overkill and extremely expensive. For PUBG, the second part remains true but not the first one. The RTX 5090 is the only card capable of pushing past 400 and even 500 frames in the game with the right settings and resolution. For those running 360Hz monitors, this is something to consider if money is not a problem.

At 4K max settings, the card averages 300 frames, which are numbers you don’t see with any other card. All you need to do is drop down resource-heavy settings, and you can easily achieve a competitive frame rate at 4K. To put it into perspective, at the lowest settings on 4K, the card averages 400 frames. In short, you can play PUBG at 4K competitively with the RTX 5090.

As we move down resolutions, the performance only gets better. At 1440p, you are looking at 380 fps on max settings and about 450 on the lowest. The performance is pretty much the same on 1080p.

However, the price is still not easy to ignore, which is why we don’t recommend the RTX 5090 to everyone. But the performance can’t be ignored either. To put it simply, if you want the best of the best and money is not an issue, then you can consider the RTX 5090. It’s not only capable of running PUBG but can also easily run even the most graphically demanding AAA titles with ease. So, if you do get it, you won’t need an upgrade for a long time.

AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT

The RX 9060 XT is another strong budget contender for PUBG. It’s a good choice if you want to play the game at 1440p with competitive settings.

At 1440p, the card easily averages 260 frames with highs of 300 in less dense areas. If you are running a 240 Hz setup, then the RX 9060XT is a very good choice due to this. However, at max settings, there is a considerable drop in frame rates, and the card hovers around 120 fps, which is nowhere near what we are looking for.

At 1080p is where the card starts to shine, especially if you want to play the game competitively. With competitive settings, you can expect around 300 fps. On the other hand, with max settings, the card still performs amicably and averages 180 frames.

As we move to 4K, there is a big drop in performance, which is to be expected. The RX 9060XT isn’t a 4K card. But you can still achieve 140-150 fps if you turn down all settings to Low.

Overall, the RX 9060XT is a great card if you are on a budget, especially for PUBG. It can run the game with high frame rates at both 1080p and 1440p, given you optimize your settings.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060

The RTX 5060 is essentially a 1080p budget beast. Yes, it has 8 GB VRAM, which isn’t enough for most AAA games, but for competitive games at 1080p, it’s very decent, especially if you are on a strict budget.

Let’s start with the resolution this card is designed for. At 1080p with competitive settings, you are looking at around an average of 240 fps. You can get this number higher by dropping the Render scale down or enabling DLSS in NVIDIA’s control panel. It’s perfect for those budget 1080p 144Hz setups, and with some smart tweaks it will saturate a 240Hz monitor as well.

1440p and 4K numbers aren’t great, and that’s to be expected. At 1440p with the lowest settings, the card averages 150 fps, and at 4K with the same settings, average fps dips down to 100.

We would still recommend something a bit stronger for PUBG, like the RX 9060XT or even the RTX 5070Ti we mentioned. But if you are building a rig for 1080p competitive gaming and are on a strict budget, then go with this card. The frame rate averages in PUBG might make it seem like the RTX 5060 is weak, but that’s not the case. At 1080p, it can also run AAA titles at enjoyable (70-100) frame rates.
