Staff’s Choice

Introduction

Who hasn’t heard about World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV? MMOs are huge, and these games require a specialized skillset if you want to reach the top of your server. In order to help MMO players reach their full potential, many brands have at least one MMO mouse in their lineup. These mice feature a ton of extra buttons and features that’ll make your life as an MMO player a lot easier. In order to help you find the best MMO mouse for you, we’ve gone over the best options and list what makes them special.

We’ll get right to the good stuff, but if you’re interested in what to look for in an MMO mouse we’ve got a section dedicated to that at the end of the article.

Razer Naga V2 Pro

Razer is a tech giant, especially in the world of gaming mice. When Razer is making improvements in FPS gaming mice, it’s not forgetting the MMO gaming mice either. Razer’s newer and improved version of Razer Naga Pro is the Razer Naga V2 Pro. An outstanding wireless gaming mouse that’s built for MMO gaming.

The Razer Naga V2 Pro features a right-handed build and a modular design. This design allows you to freely adjust the side panel between 3, 6, or 12-button formats, making it a great choice for MMO gamers who also like to play other stuff on the side. It also houses Razer’s Focus Pro 30K sensor and their third generation optical switches, making this a mouse that’s very much up to date with current technology. In addition to all of this, it also comes with the new hyperscroll pro wheel, which offers a ton of customization.

If modularity and customization is your jam, and you want all of this in a wireless package with cutting edge tech, the Naga V2 Pro is an excellent choice.

Aerox 9 Wireless

The Aerox line is SteelSeries’ line of lightweight gaming mice, and this Aerox 9 is the MMO version. It’s a lightweight (for an MMO mouse) device that weighs only 89g. This is partially because of the diamond-shaped cutouts that reduce its overall weight. Despite this low weight, it still gives you a side pad design with a complete set of 18 buttons—all of which can be reprogrammed within their customization software.

Like all the Aerox mice, the Aerox 9 also has a high performance gaming sensor, meaning that you can use it for games that are more sensor-heavy as well. It’s a nice addition to your (MMO) gaming setup if you don’t like heavy mice.

These are placed in a semi-circular way around a thumb rest with a textured grip, making it a great comfort spot. This button setup will take some time to get used to, but if you find the traditional array of small side buttons to be too confusing then this setup can be a lifesaver.

What Makes a Good MMO Mouse?

MMO mice set themselves apart in a number of ways. The sensor is arguably less important in an MMO mouse than it is in a shooter mouse because pixel-perfect precision often isn’t needed in MMOs, but there are other things you should look out for.

Buttons

MMO games are complicated, requiring a ton of inputs in very short succession. For this, you need a mouse with lots of (side)buttons. Traditional gaming mice have two buttons on the side, whereas MMO mice have anywhere from 6 to 12 buttons.

The traditional grid of buttons on the side of the mouse is the most common way of identifying an MMO mouse.

Side Pad Design

You can slap 50 buttons on the side of a mouse, but if they can’t easily be identified in the heat of battle, all these extra buttons are useless. The size of the buttons, the edges, and the gap between the buttons should be just right so that you don’t end up pressing any buttons unnecessarily. This is partially down to personal preferences of course, but the best MMO mice have smart designs that allow you to easily tell which button is which.

Size & Shape of the Mouse

MMO mice don’t need to be featherweights, and they don’t need to be stripped down to the bare essentials so that their users can only focus on aim. MMO mice are all about comfort and features, so MMO mice will almost always be heavier than FPS mice (see our Best FPS Mouse Guide) and are usually on the larger side so that users can comfortably rest their hands on them.

If FPS mice are racecars that have been stripped down to the bare essentials in order to achieve peak performance, MMO mice are luxury cars that focus on giving their users a comfortable ride with a ton of extra utility while they’re on the road.

Conclusion

You don’t need a dedicated MMO mouse to play MMO games, but the extra buttons and features can absolutely help out. In this list, we have the best mice out there right now so that you can find your own personal best MMO mouse.

All of these mice perform perfectly as an MMO mouse, so if you see something you like you can go ahead and order it without having to worry.
