The Rise of the Logitech G Pro X2 SUPERSTRIKE

Introduction

For years, mouse technology was, for the end user, kind of stagnant. Sure, sensor tech evolved and companies innovated with web drivers and so on, but all of those things did not really have an effect on the actual performance of the mouse. The last ‘big revolution’ on that front was the addition of higher polling rates a couple of years ago, and the advantages of that are still being debated to this day. And then, Logitech G shook things up with the Pro X2 SUPERSTRIKE. This mouse has configurable switches, making it possible for the user to select the actuation point and feedback level, a world first.

Now, we’re a couple of weeks after release, so it’s time to check where we stand. Is it a new revolution? Or do pro gamers largely ignore it? Let’s take a look at the rise of the Logitech G Pro X2 SUPERSTRIKE.

Note: in this article, we’ll refer to the mouse as ‘SUPERSTRIKE’ to make things easier to read.

HITS – Is it a hit?

When Logitech announced their Haptic Inductive Trigger System (HITS), there was some skepticism in the community. Configurable, analog switches had already made their way to the keyboard world, and there they became the absolute benchmark for top-end gaming keyboards. But mouse switches are not the same. They need to have some sort of feedback to indicate that you’ve pressed them, for example. So the gaming world anxiously waited to see whether Logitech could pull this off properly.

When we first started testing the HITS system, we were immediately impressed. There’s an entire in-depth piece on it if you’re interested, but if you want the short version, the conclusion is the following:

“As far as I’m concerned, Logitech is responsible for yet another gigantic leap forward in gaming mice tech.

Pros, regular users, and other reviewers seem to echo that. Some will find HITS more useful and groundbreaking than others, but pretty much no one is calling it a gimmick or anything like that. That’s saying something.

The pro opinion

We’ve gathered some notable quotes from pros on the SUPERSTRIKE, and notably its HITS system. Obviously, some of these quotes should be taken with a grain of salt (sponsorships can always influence these things) but pros and enthusiasts alike do seem to agree that Logitech G made something special here.

“The click is instantly faster. You feel it the moment you play and the customization allowed me to achieve my perfect click.”
m0nesy, CS2 pro

“The adjustable click sensitivity feature is incredibly innovative. While the shell design remains the same as the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 I used previously, the clicking experience feels much more comfortable. This significantly reduces fatigue during extended gaming sessions, which is a real advantage.
Siwoo, League of Legends pro

“Something that I loved about SUPERSTRIKE is the click. It’s the best click I ever felt in my life, and I already tested a lot of mice.”
kscerato, CS2 pro

“Played on the SUPERSTRIKE for a couple of weeks now, and it’s definitely the best mouse on the market right now. It feels like a whole new world to competitive and gaming just got opened with the new adjustable mouse clicks as well as the vibration.”
vico, Fortnite pro

Pro adoption

The pro gaming mouse market is pretty rigid. Once pros find a mouse that they like and perform well with, they tend to stick to it. As such, it’s rare to see any big moves in the top five. Only really special mice (either in terms of technology, specs, or overall design) manage to break into the top five, and it’s quite evident that the G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE is one of those mice.

In the weeks since its release, it has already managed to climb into the top 5, and it’s still steadily gaining users. We can easily see it gain the fourth spot, and if enough Superlight users (the first and second versions are still extremely popular) make the switch, it’s naturally also going to end up in the top 3.

What’s interesting is that this aforementioned switch hasn’t really happened yet. Compared to the SUPERSTRIKE release, the Logitech G Pro X Superlight and the Superlight 2 have only lost a combined ~2.5%. This means that almost half of all current SUPERSTRIKE users are coming from a different mouse. Given how the SUPERSTRIKE has the same shape as the Superlight, it’s reasonable to assume we’ll see a good chunk of pros switching from a Superlight in the future. This means that there is quite a big potential market that’s still up for grabs.

But even if that doesn’t happen, the SUPERSTRIKE is already a success story. Achieving this kind of market share in such a short amount of time makes it one of the most successful mouse launches since we started ProSettings.net.

Reliable shape, meaningful upgrade

If there’s anything we’ve learned at ProSettings.net over the past ten years, it’s that it’s extremely difficult to get pros to switch to new shapes. The top 10 of the most used mice is made up of basically three different shapes: the Logitech G Pro X SUPERSTRIKE shape, the Razer Viper, and the Razer DeathAdder. Only two mice in the top 10 are not based on one of those shapes.

With the Superlight/SUPERSTRIKE shape being by far the most used shape in pro gaming, it wouldn’t be wise of Logitech G to make drastic changes to such a loved design. So, bringing this revolutionary new technology to the most successful shell design in the history of pro gaming was a no-brainer. It means that there’s going to be little to no ‘break-in period’ when pros switch to the mouse.

It also carries forth the legacy of the Logitech G Pro mice. The line has a history of bringing industry-firsts to the market, and the SUPERSTRIKE is yet another notch to add to that belt.

What’s next?

It seems like Logitech G really blindsided the competition with their HITS mouse. At this current point in time, the only option on the market if you want to use customizable triggers is still the SUPERSTRIKE. And with no announcement from any other brands, we don’t see this changing any time soon. Combine this with the fact that this new tech is in a trusted, reliable shape and the fact that many find it to be genuinely useful, groundbreaking tech, and we can only see the SUPERSTRIKE going up.

We expect it to steadily rise through the ranks over time. Where it will end up is anyone’s guess, of course, but there’s no denying that this is one of Logitech’s most successful mouse launches to date, and that HITS is a piece of tech that has already made its mark on the market.
