Introduction
On ProSettings.net, members earn reputation points. These are a way of displaying how active members are, and how valuable their contributions have been. They can also grant access to special badges to indicate top contributors.
In this article, we’ll briefly explain what the reputation system is and how it works.
What does the reputation counter mean?
The reputation counter is a means of indicating how active a member is on our website. Users gain reputation by being active and productive on the website.
The most important way of gaining reputation is by placing comments that are deemed to be valuable by the community and our staff. Everyone can vote on comments, and insightful questions, well-sourced updates, or helpful remarks get upvoted by others.
Every upvote represents one reputation point. However, every downvote also means you lose one reputation point. So, if you’re posting a player page update, please make sure it’s a well-sourced one. We have a guide for that if you’re interested.
Users who post comments that get used for player page updates always get a reputation point from our staff.
There are other ways of gaining reputation, too, though those are slower. Simply being active on the website (logging in, voting on good comments, …) will also steadily increase your reputation.
What can you do with reputation points?
Reputation points are simply a way of showcasing how active and productive a member is.
Users with a high reputation get a special ‘Top Contributor’ badge, but this does not grant them any special benefits, nor does it warrant a special treatment from the admin team. They are bound by the same rules as all other users.
Additionally, we get tons of very good comments from non-members, too. So always evaluate comments on their own merit, rather than by simply looking at who the author of the comment is.
The future
Our reputation system is still very new. As such, we’re always tweaking and updating it. We do believe that this is a system with potential, though. In the future, we might do some small (gear) giveaways among members who are past a certain reputation threshold as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for their contributions, for example.
As we’re building out the community and member aspect of our website, we obviously welcome all suggestions and feedback. So please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!
