In CS2, knives are among the most desirable items to obtain. This unfortunately also makes them extremely expensive. With the cheapest knives costing over $50 these days, players have to invest a significant amount of cash if they want to rock a knife. Due to these prices, many players are looking for ways to get a free CS2 knife. In this article, we’ll go over the best ways to get a free CS2 knife, and we’ll also give you some tips on how to avoid scams.

Avoiding Scams

The most important thing when starting your journey for a free CS2 knife is realizing one simple thing: if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Always do your research beforehand. There are a lot of scammers out there who are looking to profit off of people who are desperate to get themselves some cool skins, so stay on your toes.

When logging in to Steam somewhere (such as on a trading website) always double check if you’re on the actual website before logging in. Never trust anonymous strangers who want to ‘confirm your inventory’ or anything like that. Don’t provide information you’re not comfortable providing. Never trust strangers with sensitive details such as your credit card information.

All of the ways of obtaining a free CS2 knife in this article are safe, but it’s still good to know that there are many sharks in the water.

1. Clash.gg Rain Mode

Clash.gg is one of the most well-known case opening websites on the market right now. What a lot of people don’t know is that you can also go completely free-to-play on Clash.gg. Once you’ve verified your identity via a KYC process (which is something all websites that are active in certain markets have to do) you can join the Rain pool.

The Rain pool is a pool of gems (1 gem is equal to roughly 1 dollar) that gets distributed every 30 minutes. This pool of gems consists of small percentages of each bet that players make, but players can also decide to tip the rain pool.

You join the rain pool by clicking the ‘join’ button and then solving a captcha. After doing this, you will get a share of the rain pool when it drops.

Since joining the Rain is pool is completely free, you can build up website balance this way. The only catch is that you have to join the pool every 30 minutes, but other than that there’s nothing you need to do.

Clash.gg doesn’t have premium currencies or anything like that, so gems earned from the rain pool are the exact same as gems earned by depositing real money. If you build up enough gems by joining the Rain pool, you can eventually cash out a knife on the website. Adventurous people can also use their gems to open cases or play games on the site, but of course this is very risky.

If you decide to sign up for Clash.gg and deposit money, you can use code PROSETTINGS for a 5% deposit bonus.

2. Collecting and Selling Ingame Drops

Once a week, players who have Prime Status in CS2 receive a care package if they’ve played enough to level up. This care package contains mostly low-value items, but the worth of these items can obviously build up over time if you gather a ton of them. Furthermore, older items mostly increase in price. The CS2 Weapons Case, for example, used to trade hands for $0.07. Today, it’s worth over $10.

Of course you’ll have to wait for a pretty long time if you want your common drops to rise in value substantially, but even if you don’t want to do that there’s plenty of profit to be made by just playing the game. The new Kilowatt Case, for example, currently trades for over 2 dollars. Get a couple of those and you’re well on your way to a free CS2 knife. You might also get lucky and get a rare drop, which can easily be worth well over $10.

If you play the game long enough, you’ll eventually have built up an inventory of free drops that you can trade up for a free CS2 knife.

3. Joining Giveaways

Companies and influencers are constantly hosting giveaways. These usually require you to perform actions such as joining a Discord or following someone on Twitter, but that only takes a couple of seconds of your time.

Entering free giveaways obviously won’t guarantee that you end up with a skin when all is said and done, but if you’re consistently joining giveaways you might get lucky and win a knife or something of equal value.

A piece of advice we can give: don’t exclusively join high tier giveaways. Sure, winning a brand new AWP Dragon Lore is an exciting prospect, but there are always going to be thousands of eager players joining those giveaways along with you. By also joining lower tier giveaways (which sometimes have fewer people interested in them) you can increase your odds of winning something.

Finally, be wary of scams. While the first two methods in this article are very safe ways of obtaining a free CS2 knife, this third one isn’t 100% foolproof.

When joining giveaways, never give out any revealing information about yourself. Never sign into any shady websites. Only join giveaways hosted by reputable organizations and persons. Never give out your password for any reason.

4. Trading Your Way up to a Knife

This method used to be far more viable and common, but we’re listing it in this article just to be complete.

By trading away skins you don’t need/want and going for a bit of profit with every trade, you can grind your way up to a knife. Initially, progress will be very slow since you’ll be trading low value items. A 10% profit is worth a lot less on a trade totaling $0.31 than on a trade worth $150, for example. However, if you’re patient and you pick the right trades, you could be raising your inventory value with every trade.

The reason this method has fallen out of favor is because of Valve’s anti-scam measures. Every item that you trade gets tradelocked for 7 days, for example. This greatly reduces the speed at which you can flip skins. If you’re unlucky, your item can also drop in price during these 7 days.

This tradelock, in addition to other measures Valve put in place to combat scammers along with the rise of third-party marketplaces, has made the low-level trading scene all but die out. In the ‘olden days’ you could find a bargain on a skin or case and then instantly trade it for a profit. Now that every item gets locked for 7 days, this method of trading up has become a lot slower and less viable.

Trading up to a knife is still technically possible, but if you don’t have a significant starting budget it will take a very long time and require a lot of patience. We only recommend this method if you really want to go for a challenge, as you’re going to be putting in a ton of hours for comparatively little gains.

Conclusion – Getting a Free CS2 Knife

CS2 knives are expensive, and aside from a couple of exceptions, most people and organizations aren’t willing to give away expensive stuff for absolutely free. As such, getting a free CS2 knife involves having a lot of patience and -if you want to fast-track it- luck.

By using the methods listed above (or ideally: combining these methods) you can safely and reliably build your way towards a free CS2 knife though. The methods listed above take almost nothing of your time so they can be done while studying, working, and so on.

Of course there’s also the most logical way of getting a CS2 knife: getting a (side) job to simply pay for your knife. We don’t consider this to be a ‘free’ way to get a CS2 knife though, since it involves spending a lot of time away from your PC. The methods listed above require minimal time (aside from the fourth method) and no monetary investment, so we consider these to be truly free methods to get a free CS2 knife.

Good luck on your journey!
