Introduction
VALORANT’s Agent Mastery system gives you a way to show how much time you’ve spent playing your favorite agents. As you play, you’ll earn Mastery Points, unlock progression levels, and gain access to rewards such as portrait upgrades, sprays, player cards, and agent poses.
Agent Mastery also gives you a reason to stick with a main. Each agent has their own progression track, so the more you play an agent, the more you can unlock for them.
Here’s how Agent Mastery works, what you can earn from it, and how to level up efficiently.
Note: Agent Mastery is in no way connected to rank progression or competitive play. It’s purely a way to show how much experience you have on an agent.
What Is Agent Mastery in VALORANT?
Riot introduced Agent Mastery in Patch 13.06 on September 22, 2026. It replaced the old Agent Gear system with a progression system that tracks your progress separately for each agent.
You don’t need to do much for the progression. Just keep playing the agents you play, and you will progress in Agent Mastery for that agent. For example, play Clove to level up Clove’s mastery, or play Sova to progress through Sova’s track. Every agent has their own Act Levels, Lifetime Levels, rewards, and Agent ID.
There is one important catch: your previous playtime does not count toward Agent Mastery. Even if you’ve played thousands of hours on Jett, you’ll start at Level 0 just like everyone else.
Any Agent Gear you’ve already unlocked remains in your inventory. The remaining rewards have been moved into the new rewards track alongside new items.
Agent Mastery levels are also visible to other players. This is actually what the system is for. To allow players to show off their mastery of certain agents. Not only does it act as a bragging title, but it also allows you to convince your teammates to let you play a certain agent.
Your level appears in places such as your agent portrait, agent select, combat report, and match history, letting others see how much you’ve played a particular agent.

How Agent Mastery Works
Agent Mastery uses Mastery Points (MP) to track your progress. You earn MP for the agent you play in Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, Spike Rush, Team Deathmatch, and Premier.
The points go toward the agent you use in each match. If you switch between several agents, each one progresses separately. Generally, longer matches award more MP. Wins and strong performance can also boost your progression.
Your Mastery Points contribute to two progression systems: Act Levels and Lifetime Levels.
Act Levels
Act Levels track your progress with an agent during the current Act. Each agent has 10 main Act Levels, with portrait upgrades at Levels 4, 7, and 10.
These upgrades change the appearance of your agent portrait. However, they are temporary and remain available for one additional Act before expiring.
Once you reach Act Level 10, you can continue earning progress with that agent for the rest of the Act.
Lifetime Levels
Lifetime Levels track your overall progress with an agent and never reset. Every Act Level you earn also increases that agent’s Lifetime Level by one. So, every Act Level is equal to one Lifetime Level. Act Levels go away after an Act, but Lifetime Levels stay.
Your Lifetime Level is also tied to the agent’s rewards track. As you progress, you unlock the option to purchase more items using Kingdom Credits.
You can check your progress by opening the Agents tab, selecting an agent, and viewing their mastery page. The updated end-of-game screen also shows how much progress you earned after each match.
What Can You Unlock With Agent Mastery?
Each agent has their own rewards track, so the items available depend on who you’re playing. Rewards include:
- Portrait upgrades: New accents for your agent portrait at specific Act Levels.
- Agent poses: Additional poses to show off your favorite agent.
- Player cards and backgrounds: Cosmetics for customizing your profile.
- Sprays and titles: More ways to personalize your VALORANT identity.
- Quotes: Agent-specific cosmetic rewards.
- Agent stats: Records such as K/D, win rate, clutches, and aces.
Reaching a certain Lifetime Level unlocks the option to purchase rewards with Kingdom Credits. You don’t automatically receive every item when you level up, so you’ll need to spend credits on the rewards you want.
Your Agent ID brings these cosmetics and stats together. You can customize what you display for each agent, making it easier to show off your progress and favorite achievements.

Is Agent Mastery Worth the Grind?
Agent Mastery is primarily a cosmetic progression system. It doesn’t give you a competitive advantage or directly improve your performance in ranked matches.
But the great thing about this system is that you don’t really need to pay much attention to progress in it, since progression is directly linked to how much you play an agent. You probably have 4-5 agents that you are comfortable playing; just keep playing them as you used to, and your Agent Mastery will progress. Of course, if there is a specific agent you want to progress faster, you will have to play them more.
But apart from that, there is no specific need to grind for it. Just keep playing how you are playing, and you will start accumulating MP points for your main agents.
