Introduction
Spy and sniping roles in first-person shooters are usually less about close-up action in the trenches and more about strategic and/or long-range battles. You need precision and patience, both for those perfect snipes as well as for those stealthy infiltrations. Whether it’s marking targets or timing explosives, your goal remains the same: gather intel and take out targets effectively.
So, pick your poison and dive into this quick guide. From spy gadgets to the best sniper, here’s everything you need to know about the Recon Class.
Recon Class: The Mask Stays On
Recon class isn’t just about sitting back and picking off targets from a distance. You’re the team’s eyes — spotting enemies, feeding intel, and sniping precisely.
Signature Set
Signature Gadget: Motion Sensor – Deployable gadget that marks nearby enemies, vehicles, and gadgets for your teammates.
Signature Weapon: Sniper Rifle – Reduced weapon sway, steady breath control, and quicker rechambering between shots.
Signature Trait: Aim-Spotting – Marks enemies when aimed at (ADS). Time taken to mark an enemy depends on factors like scope, zoom level, and movement.
Class Active Ability: UAV Overwatch. Call in a drone that automatically scans a 100m radius for 60 seconds, detecting enemies. Press LB+RB together on Xbox, L1+R1 on PlayStation, or “6” on PC to activate it.
Training Paths
| Sniper | Spec-Ops |
|---|
| Improved Auto-Spotting (33% Range, 10% Angle & +3sec Time) | Stealthier movement when crouched/prone or performing takedowns |
| Inflicts damage on spotted enemies | Spot nearby gadgets and mark them. Ability is inactive when sprinting |
| Sniper headshots are confirmed kills | Prone reduces spotted duration by 33% and removes the in-combat state 1.5 seconds faster. |
Recon Class offers two training paths to choose from: Sniper and Spec-Ops. Sniper specializes in long-range precision shots, like the name suggests, while marking enemies conveniently. Conversely, Spec-Ops focuses on infiltrating enemy territory, sabotaging their equipment, and improving the advancement possibilities for the offense.
Gadgets
Recon Class gadgets include:
Laser Designator (Default)
With binoculars in hand, Recon marks enemy vehicles and enhanced target spotting, and feeds that intel to the team right away.
Anti-Personnel Mines (Default)
AP mines detonate on enemy contact, making them viable for protecting your sniping positions or safeguarding flanks. Place them in hidden areas to catch enemies off guard and deny access to key points.
Recon Drone (Rank 10)
Recon UAV is an excellent scouting gadget armed with thermal vision and disruption weapons that target enemy equipment. It marks enemies for your team as long as it keeps hovering. It’s one of the best intel-sourcing tools in the class.
Sniper Decoy (Rank 23)
Creates a sniper decoy to distract enemies. It pulls their attention, conceals your scope glint if enemies are close, and also pops up a decoy location on enemy minimaps. It’s a solid distraction to throw off some enemies.
C-4 Explosives (Recon Specialist 1 Assignment)
These are C4 explosives that recharge over time, so you’re never out for long. They’re strong against enemy vehicles. Simply sneak behind the armor, plant the C4, and get out before the explosion.
Tracer Dart (Recon Specialist 1 Assignment)
Marks enemy vehicles and enables quicker and long-range targeting for the Engineer’s launchers and team vehicle weapons. Extremely impactful on maps that favor vehicle dominance.
Beginner’s Guide (Tips)
Keep in mind these tips that’ll help you better utilize Recon’s kit:
Snipe with Purpose
Always pull the trigger of a sniper with the bigger goal in mind. Don’t get sucked into endless sniper duels that pull you away from the real objective. Position yourself with objectives in your sight and clear the way for your team to push forward.
Focus on eliminating key threats to your team’s progress or spawn points. So, avoid random snipes and focus on paving the way by taking out high-priority targets.
Spot Enemies Efficiently
Take proper advantage of Recon’s auto-spotting perk. Always keep a lookout and feed enemy positions to your team. You can also make use of the Recon Drone and fly it over objectives to mark all enemy threats and let your team sweep the area prepared. That’s how you keep the upper hand.
Support Against Vehicles
If there’s pressure on your team from enemy tanks and vehicle weapons, use the Laser Designator and mark those vehicles so your Engineers and vehicles can lock on and wipe them out quicker.
Or, if you like the stealthiness, approach vehicles and place C4 explosives to blow up armored threats yourself.
Wearing The Camouflage
Playing a half-decent Recon match is all about positioning. It’s always better to position yourself on high ground with solid cover, preferably with objectives or common enemy paths in your sightlines.
Stay unpredictable, reposition after getting spotted, and don’t wait around too long to make a move. Patience really pays off here, so go for the shots that matter, ones that clear out key threats. Or, wait until that one perfect moment to make your move on an unsuspecting enemy tank.
